PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I have managed safety for regional, national, and international organizations for more than thirty years in the fields of construction, demolition, general industry, vehicle fleet, marine construction, and protection of the public near these operations.

2002-Present       President of Accident Prevention & Investigation, Inc.
This professional organization provides accident investigation, expert testimony, safety consulting, risk management evaluation, and training services.  The main focus has been on construction, demolition, and industrial accidents involving high-risk operations that are an integral part of these industries (fall protection, cranes, rigging, steel erection, trenching, heavy equipment, scaffolds, shoring, confined space entry, LO/TO, traffic control, backed over, etc.).

2014-Present       Senior Safety Consultant for McDonough, Bolyard, Peck (MBP)
MBP is an international construction management and consulting company.  I provide safety management, program development and implementation, training, and consulting services at the corporate level for heavy, highway, building, marine, bridge, sewage treatment plant, and tunnel construction and demolition projects.  My focus is on fall protection, traffic control, run over, backed over, excavation, confined space entry, LO/TO, and other high-risk issues.

2012-2013           Corporate Safety Manager/Consultant for Rummel, Klepper, & Kahl, LLC (RK&K)
RK&K is a multi-state construction management, engineering, and inspection company.  I provided safety management, program development and implementation, training and consulting services for heavy, highway, marine, bridge, tunnel and rapid transit system construction and demolition projects.

2008-2012           Safety Manager/Consultant for McDonough, Bolyard, Peck (MBP)
MBP is an international construction management and consulting company.  I managed and directed safety for the Navy’s $1.5 billion National Military Medical Center construction and demolition projects.  This routinely involved review and approval of operational safety plans for critical crane lifts, rigging, steel erection, pre-cast concrete erection, fall protection, trenching, temporary traffic control, demolition, and other high-risk operations.  Other duties included accident investigations, leading Navy Mishap Review Board meetings, and advising the project management team and top naval facility officers.  My responsibilities then expanded to cover other heavy, highway, building, marine, bridge and tunnel construction and demolition projects, where I provided safety management, program development and implementation, training and consulting services.

2003-2008           Safety Manager for Total Site Solutions
I managed and directed safety for this multi-state group of companies involved in engineering, design, construction management, site development, construction, demolition and maintenance of computer data centers, buildings and building support systems (communication, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, electric, plumbing, welding, metal fabrication, and security).  I was responsible for safety program development and implementation, training, accident investigation, fleet safety, and security.

2001-2003           Area Safety Manager for Kiewit Construction Company
Kiewit is an international construction, demolition and mining company.  I provided safety management, program development and implementation, accident investigation, traffic control, security, fleet, and training services for highway, rapid transit system, bridge, marine, airport, and off-shore oil processing platform projects.  Demolishing and reconstructing the Blue Line of Chicago’s elevated rapid transit system was a key project involving prefabrication and massive crane lifts.

1988-2001           Safety/Risk Manager for Cherry Hill Construction, Inc.
I managed and directed the Safety/Risk Management Department for this Mid-Atlantic area contractor.  My responsibilities included program development and implementation, training, accident investigation, traffic control, security, fleet, emergency services, and claims management.  Projects included highways, rapid transit systems, bridges, landfills, buildings, earthmoving, airports, hazardous materials sites, underground utility systems, paving, and extensive demolition.  I was relied upon to evaluate and train crane operators and developed a manual of lifting capabilities for our fleet of cranes, boom trucks, forklifts, excavators, and other lifting machines.  I produced a similar manual of depth capacities for our trench boxes, manhole boxes, hydraulic shields, hydraulic shoring, timber shoring, sheeting systems, and other ground stabilization materials, as well as allowable methods to slope and bench various types of ground.  I developed and managed the trenching, utility damage prevention, confined space entry, and pressure testing safety programs used by our underground utility installation crews.

1980-1988           District Safety Manager for Kiewit Construction Company
I managed safety for numerous, multi-million dollar, heavy construction and demolition projects throughout the eastern United States.  My responsibilities included safety program development and implementation, training, accident investigation, traffic control, security, emergency services, and loss control.  Projects included highways, bridges, rapid transit systems, airports, dams, marine projects, tunnels, hydroelectric plants, pile driving, and mass excavation at the Tennessee/Tombigbee waterway.

1980                     Project Safety Engineer for Ohio Valley Construction, Inc.
I provided safety, training, loss control, security, and emergency medical services for the excavation and construction of Baltimore's subway tunnel system entrance.

1978-1980           Safety Engineer for Fruin-Colnon Corporation.
I provided safety, industrial hygiene, emergency medical, and security services on pressurized subway tunnel and vent shaft projects in Baltimore and Atlanta.
